When dealing with Mens haircuts what does fade mean?

like a high fade low fade bald fade.... what does fade mean? and how do they do it?When dealing with Mens haircuts what does fade mean?
A fade is the tapering of the hair between the differing cutting lengths of the blades on the trimmer.

If you have say a #2 around the top of the sides and #1 towards the bottom if it is not faded between cuts you will have a weight line hence it is faded in to blend it.When dealing with Mens haircuts what does fade mean?
Fade is used in many contexts. Starting in the mid 1980's, it was used in african american barber shops to describe a very close taper where dark hair fades into dark skin. Then about 15-20 years ago when young white guys started tapering the back/sides of their hair again as most guys had before the Beatles and Hippies of the mid to late 60's and the subsequent long hair of the next twenty five years, they started using the word fade to describe the same taper style of the hair on the back and sides as almost all guys wore pre-Beatles, and their grandfather's still wore and acting like it was the newest thing since sliced bread. Now the word fade is used to describe the original context of a very close taper whether there is any actual fading at all in terms of dark hair fading to dark skin since it could be dark hair and light skin which does not fade; and also just as a substitute for the word taper to describe a standard taper on the back/sides of the head. The words high fade, low fade, bald fade refer to raising the edge of the natural hairline on the back/sides of the head by clipper shaving the hair to the skin. The edge refers to where scalp hair stops growing and there is only skin around the ear arches and across the nape of the neck. Now however edge has been extended to the edge of hair growth along the temporal and frontal hairlines and many african americans have this area outline shaved defining an artificial hairline around the forehead and face. Some whites have also started copying this trend. In my opinion it is not a good look as the stubble soon appears and doesn't look great on the forehead. This practice is usually referred to as a line up. High fade, low fade, bald fade are all relative and there are no set exact parameters as to how high above the edge of the hairline the hair is clipper shaved to the skin before beginning the taper for any of these styles. There are different interpretations. To some, the word bald fade also implies bald fade butch. In other words all the top hair is cut to the same very short length, but it doesn't have to be this way. There can be a bald fade crew cut, bald fade ivy league, bald fade flat top crew cut etc.

A bald fade is like a high n' tight where the hair is transition tapered from the artificially raised edge of the hairline to the longer hair on top, instead of a high n' tight with a more abrupt transition with less transition tapering. The taper in the fade area is very short lived since fade in this context implies a taper from #00000 length=0.2mm=10 hour's hair growth to #000 length = 0.5mm=24 hour's hair growth. These are the lengths that a taper clipper fitted with a fade blade cuts between as the taper lever is moved as the clipper is guided up the sides and back of the head. In a few days it is impossible to tell if there was any tapering at all. In contrast when fitted with the standard blade a taper clipper adjusts between #000 length=0.5 mm =24 hour's hair growth and #1 balde length = 2.4 mm = 5 day's hair growth by adjusting the taper lever. [Assuming the standard rate of growth of 0.5mm per day or roughly 0.5'; per month.]

Grooming any of the short pomp styles- crew cut, ivy league, flat top crew cut- is basically the same and takes about a minute or two.

1) Towel dry hair.

2) Barely dip fingertips in jar of wax.

3)Transfer wax to palms.

4) Smooth palms over hair.

5)Brush hair off forehead to form short pomp front.

Whichever style you decide on, be sure to take a photo to help describe the desired haircut to the barber or stylist.

Good Luck!
They do it by different blades in the shaver.A fade is just a term for how the cut is,usually the length of it.
This is very old-fashioned. I go to a barber for my cut...and I'm female...I ask for a modified shade...and he gives me the right stuff every four months!
