It's a long pomp(pompadour) similar to the style Elvis Presley and others in the 50's wore. Sometimes with a DA back. There is a yahoo group called greaser's lair that has photos. That group is associated with a website named slickville. The style doesn't have to be done with an abundance of hair oil. Waxes, clays, putties, gels can be used instead. A pomp is a style where the hair is combed back off the forehead usually without a part. Short pomp is of course the original name for a crew cut. Technically a crew cut was a round top short pomp and a flat top crew cut was a brush top short pomp, since the flat top resembles the flat bristle surface of a brush.
